Anthro of Science & Technology - 22546 - ANTH 459 - 002 | ||||||||||||||

Today, the heightened presence and role of science, medicine, and technology in society is undeniable. Science and Technology Studies (STS) is an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the mutual permutation and co-production of technoscience and society. How is scientific knowledge made? What makes a fact gain traction and objectivity in the world? How are both science and technology employed and deployed in the world? This course addresses these questions through an exploration of ethnographic approaches to science and technology. As anthropologists are concerned with broader historical, political, and social relations and processes in the phenomena they study, they are also, then, well-equipped to examine science and technology in society and practice.
Some topics we will cover: PET scans, physicists, airplane design, climate change
